November 28, 2014 marks the 50th anniversary of NASA’s Mariner IV mission on Mars. Mariner IV was the first spacecraft to show us how Mars planet really looked like. Until Mariner IV’s successful mission, some people believed that the Red Planet was inhabited by H.G. Wells’ Martians. After seven months, the interplanetary probe sent to Earth 21 images of Mars, encoded in binary digits and … [Read more...]

Historic Photo of Jupiter’s Moon Europa Brought to Life
NASA gave a fresh new look to an old picture of Europa, one of the four Galilean moons gravitating around planet Jupiter. The historic photo of Jupiter’s moon Europa was brought to life by using modern technology and enhanced colors. The photo was taken about twenty years ago by Galileo Orbiter spacecraft, and remastered using ultra modern image processing technology. Scientists say it is the … [Read more...]
Asteroid Mining Closer to Reality
Two private companies announced they will pursue their plans of asteroid mining. Deep Space Industries and Planetary Resources received contracts from NASA to study asteroid redirection. The U.S. company in Washington State, Planetary Resources will launch two satellites to analyze the design and systems of their telescopes based in outer space. The satellites are called Arkyd 6 and Arkyd … [Read more...]
NASA Releases Highest Resolution Video to Date on CO2 Global Movement
CO2 emissions know no borders. NASA’s latest video on the matter clarifies the issue in a very compelling manner. This is the highest resolution set of images to date showing the global extent of CO2 production. According to the scientists, the result is 64 more accurate than any previous versions. What we see is a computer model simulating carbon dioxide emissions in 2006. Both human and natural … [Read more...]
Philae Discovers Organic Molecules on Comet
The European comet lander known as Philae has detected organic molecules that contain the element that is the basis of life on Earth and that element is carbon. The Philae made the discovery before its battery ran out and the lander had to shut down. The German scientists who are in charge of the Philae comet lander said that they do not know for sure if the organic molecules found on the comet … [Read more...]
NASA Says Comet Briefly Changed Atmosphere on Mars
On Friday NASA said a comet that flew by planet Mars last month released a strong meteor shower that changed the chemistry of the planet’s upper atmosphere for a short period. Siding Spring is the name of the comet and it came from a faraway region in the solar system known as Oort Cloud. The comet passed 87,000 miles from Mars on October 19 with a speed of 35 miles, or 56 km per second and it … [Read more...]
Space Walk of Fame Museum Dedicates Shuttle Monument
A 15 foot tall monument was erected by the U.S. Space Walk of Fame Museum in Titusville to commemorate the work of NASA astronauts and ground operation personnel. The dedication ceremony took place on Saturday at the Space View Park in Titusville, where officials highlighted NASA’s space shuttle program and the advances that have been made. MIT Scientist Provides Alternative Solution to Reach Mars
NASA plans to place an asteroid on lunar orbit to use it as a training ground for a future manned mission to Mars. The project called ARM (Asteroid Redirect Mission) is in its early stages. The space agency already spent one and a half years working on the plan. If everything runs accordingly, in ten years from now, astronauts should be collecting samples from a new lunar asteroid. The … [Read more...]
NASA Orbiter Discovers LADEE Moon Probe Crash Crater
Earlier in 2014, after completing its mission, the NASA LADEE moon orbiter was intentionally crashed into the lunar surface. Now, several months later, the NASA Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter was sent to take photographs of the LADEE probe final resting place, on the moon’s far side. A small crater is all that remains. The Lunar Atmosphere and Dust Environment Explorer, LADEE, was launched in … [Read more...]
