Google just gave its search functionality on Google Drive a kick in the bum with the update coming to Android and iOS users, as well as on desktop-based web browsers. Not only did the tech titan give users the ability to search for terms and titles of files, but also for file types.
All platforms will include the new search for file types, and Google also announced that quick-accessing the Advanced Search straight from the standard search box in-app is now universal. If you haven’t caught on yet, this move is part of Google’s effort of making Drive an integral part of your day.
In order to do that, the company needed to give the users the ability to access everything you’re storing and working with on Drive – everything that you could possibly want to search for with as many sets of all-inclusive terms as possible.
Therefore, owners of iOS devices who use Google Drive will be able to search their cloud-stored file folders simply by accessing the standard iOS search bar – provided that they have updated to the newest version of iOS. At the same time, any device that has 3D Touch will offer the possibility of searching the Drive straight from their home screens.
So how exactly did Google make searching files in the Drive as easy as ABC? There are plenty of major improvements: with the help of the iOS search, users can search Google Drive without having to open the Google Drive app.
At the same time, the search box is the same spot that needs accessing for instantaneous advanced search, while the file type search remains probably the most noteworthy change. But that’s not all Google is throwing in with the update: results get a lot more specific, as users can search for a file by name or email address of the file owner.
When accessing advanced search, users have more option as to what search terms they can use, such as words contained in the file, modification date or any collaborators that file has been shared with.
Even though Google Play and Apple’s App Store already offers users the possibility of downloading the latest version of Google Drive, don’t worry if you don’t see the modifications yet; the added features are rolling out in the upcoming weeks.
