The latest Gmail update adds more shortcuts and Exchange Tasks support.
Google has recently released a new Gmail update, bringing the popular e-mail service to version 7.2 of the mobile app. The update comes with some useful new features such as more app shortcuts as well as support for Microsoft’s Exchange Tasks.
Before the latest Gmail update, the app only had one single shortcut meant for composing a new message. However, the update builds on the existing system to add new ones such as shortcuts for three e-mail accounts. The feature shows the latest three accounts you viewed and accessed within the mobile app.
Similar to the previous shortcuts found on other apps, not only Gmail, you can easily drag them to the main screen of your device and even use a specific image to identify each account. Overall, the newly added shortcuts facilitate a task which was only available through the navigation drawer of Gmail.
However, the three new shortcuts are not the only new feature added in the latest Gmail update. Google has announced that the Android app will now support Microsoft’s exchange tasks. This means that app users will be able to sync their tasks on Gmail with their Microsoft Exchange account. This allows users to easily create new tasks on either service and it will be available on each of the two apps.
The functionality remains the same, as users will still be able to change the date and the priority level of each of their tasks. Also, they will still be able to flag a specific e-mail account as a task or just create an entirely separate task within Gmail. The new Gmail Exchange Tasks support was designed as a way to provide users with an easy to manage all of their tasks in a familiar interface in order to avoid the learning curve of using a separate service.
The new Exchange Tasks support comes at a time when Google wants to expand the list of services supported by their apps such as Gmail. The new features have begun rolling out this Thursday and should be available for download to all users across the world.
What do you think about the new Gmail update? How often do you use Gmail shortcuts or the exchange tasks feature?
