The beautiful carols, wreaths and stockings are all great traditions that help us reminisce the Christmas we had 10, 20, even 50 years ago, bringing back the great delight we felt during this holiday as a child.
But we’ve also had some updates, such as the gadgets that have taken center stage, much more than cake and tinsel. This year, the fourth-generation Apple TV is the all-inclusive answer for playing music, watching movies and, why not, entertaining the kids.
Getting in the festive mood is the easiest thing, and if you have trouble figuring out things, calling Siri is just a voice command away. Music, movies and apps are just a few of the things you can try on the new Apple TV, and see where that takes you.
Music
The mood of a Christmas party is tightly connected to the music you have playing the background, and what kind of holiday gathering doesn’t play Bing Cosby’s “White Christmas” at least a dozen times?
But whatever music you’re into, Apple TV is there to happily oblige; for Apple Music subscribers, the access is nearly limitless, and just about every carol ever covered is at the tip of your finger. Siri is more than happy to provide you with a continuous stream as soon as you tell her to “Play Christmas music.”
Movies
Tired of listening to all the versions of “Jingle Bells” that have ever been recorded? You can move on to movies, and Siri can help here, too, by providing you with hand-picked selections of Christmas movies.
However, Siri’s tastes might leave something to be desired, as the command to watch a Christmas movie won’t turn up the classics – the likes of It’s a Wonderful Life – but lesser-known titles. If you don’t find the assistant helpful, you can just search for the movie you want the old-fashioned way.
Apps
If you thought Siri’s search for Christmas movies was less than useful, you might find yourself rather frustrated trying to trim your Apple TV with festive apps.
The problem here is caused by the fact that Apple hasn’t created any special holiday categories or collections in the App Store, which makes it difficult for both human and artificial intelligence to browse.
Still, if you know where to look, you can find some little gems, such as the free Wee Christmas Puzzles that keep the kids busy and out of trouble. Also, you might want to try a digital Yule log, or the Yummly app for any help with cooking.
