Starting today, Google Translate is compatible with Android Marshmallow, the company has recently informed in an official blog post. The new feature makes it easier for users to translate text without switching from one app to another.
Following in the footsteps of Microsoft’s Skype, who has recently introduced Skype Translate for Desktop to facilitate foreign language conversations between users, Google has recently announced their Translate feature. The new update from Google Translate is compatible with Android Marshmallow apps making it easier for users to quickly translate blocks of text.
Google Translate will be available as soon as customers install the new Android Marshmallow update, the company has informed. According to the explanations they have provided, users only have to select the text they want to translate within the app they are using. Once the text has been highlighted, Google Translate will make a series of options available including Copy, Share and Translate.
When the Translate option is selected, the program will automatically display the translated text in a pop-up window. Users can choose from a group of 90 languages, but tech analysts admit that the program is not completely flawless. There will still be mistakes. Google, however, guarantees that efforts are being made to reduce their presence as much as possible.
Google Translate is currently working only with Android Marshmallow devices and it is not yet sure when the update will be available for other devices, as well. Users, who have begun downloading the Marshmallow version of Android on October 5 can get the Google Translate app from the Play Store.
There are many Android apps that are now compatible with Google Translate. According to Barak Turovsky, the Product Manager behind Google Translate, the new feature works very well with WhatsApp, LinkedIn and TripAdvisor. Users can easily translate hotel reviews without leaving the TripAdvisor app. The selection of the text is done within the same window, Turovsky has concluded.
