As a latest advancement in the smartphone world, the world’s largest online retailer-cum-electronics company, Amazon is expected to introduce its first smartphone on Wednesday at an event in Seattle. The launch event will be hosted by the chief executive of Amazon, Jeff Bezos.
Amazon tweeted a link to a semi-open invitation to the public to an event on June 18.
The new 3D smartphone will be powered by the company’s home grown Android based Kindle Fire OS.
3D images would provide the customers a multidimensional mobile view of the products that they might buy on amazon.com, which would likely increase the conversion rates of users viewing product listings into purchases.
When it comes to smartphone profits, Apple and Samsung are the rulers. The trump card over other mobile companies that Amazon has in hand is that it can offer the new smartphone to its 250 million customers without a middleman.
Last week, Amazon added a music streaming service to Amazon Prime — a service that would appropriately fit in if you were about to launch a new smartphone.
An Amazon spokesman declined to comment on Wednesday’s event.
As Amazon hits the $100 billion revenue mark, the phone is the last and crucial piece of its strategy. It can bundle the smartphone with features with the Amazon Prime membership club, like it did last week with its music streaming service.
Amazon is teasing the intro with an online promotional video of 50-second showing consumers looking down with awe at a device. Below is the link to the teaser.
“If consumers adopt Amazon’s phones — and that’s a big ‘if,’ considering they love their iPhones and love their Android devices — it can then consolidate e-readers into smartphones, just like cameras and music players have been consolidated,” said Rebecca Lieb, an analyst with the Altimeter Group. “The Kindle is going to be front and center on this device.”
“If the phone takes off, there could conceivably more battles with suppliers, who will have to balance their fear of Amazon with their desire to sell more product,” Lieb said.
Coming in at a more than competitive price will be essential to the device’s prospects, just as it has been with the Kindle Fire. In addition to all these rumors and updates, Amazon’s smartphone is going to have a 4.7-inch 3D display, a quad-core processor, 2GB RAM and a 2600 mAh battery. The phone, according to a leaked photo, looks sleek, black and thin. And the addition of the front sensors could be a huge boost for the phone to deliver what Amazon claims to be promising. Aside from the four sensor cameras, it will also have a 13-megapixel rear camera and another front-facing camera with unspecified resolution.
