‘Drop, Cover and Hold’!!! The residents of Utah are ready to witness the “Great Utah Shakeout” earthquake drill on Thursday.
The event will begin with a mock earthquake at 10:15 am. The event organizers have asked the residents to “drop, cover and hold,” as if a real earthquake were happening, at that time.
The Great Utah Shakeout is being organized as a part of a global initiative to spread awareness about earthquake and emergency procedures and preparedness that should be adopted during the natural disaster.
Security arrangements alongwith emergency responders, firefighters and other emergency services have been decked up for the drill.
Joe Dougherty, Utah Division of Emergency Management, said, “There’s a million different things that people can do to be prepared, but the Great Utah Shakeout is one of the great things we can do as a state to be unified in all of our preparedness efforts.”
After that, Dougherty said Utahns should spend some time reviewing their emergency preparedness plans and look for objects that might fall and cause injury in the event of an earthquake.
