Obama Declares Major Disaster for Napa and Solano after 6.0 Quake

President Obama declared a state of major disaster for the counties of Napa and Solano after a magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck on the 24th of August. He freed up federal funding reserved for emergency situations so as to be able to bolster the recovery efforts in these regions. Gov. Northern California 6.0 Earthquake

The residents of northern California are experiencing aftershocks after the 6.0 earthquake hit the area on Sunday, causing damage, fires due to burst gas lines and injuring around 170 people. This earthquake has been the largest earthquake to hit the Bay Area ever since the Loma Prieta earthquake in 1989 which had the magnitude of 6.9. Magnitude 6.0 Earthquake hits Northern California

Northern California was hit by a magnitude 6.0 earthquake earlier this Sunday. The earthquake injured 89 - 3 critically - and also caused great damage to buildings. Fires sparked by burst gas lines were also reported. This is the largest earthquake to have hit the Bay Area since the Loma Prieta quake, in 1989. Earthquake in China Kills at Least 367

China’s Yunnan province was shaken on Sunday by a strong earthquake that left more than 1,800 people injured, toppled thousands of homes and killed 367 people. According to Xinhua News Agency (China’s official news agency), in Ludian county, 277 miles northeast of Kunming (Yunnan’s capital), 12,000 homes collapsed after the earthquake.
