A new study suggests that many people tend to take headaches very lightly. Researchers found that two or more episodes per week could signal an underlying health problem. So, they recommend going to the doctor asap.
Senior researcher Dr Michael Munger noted that most of his patients take a paracetamol and go on with their lives when they have a headache. But multiple headaches weekly is a bad omen. They could signal that we’re more than exhausted.
Researchers found that most patients tend to ignore such issues and the pain. Dr. Munger recommends keeping track of the frequency of migraines as they could signal aneurysms or cancerous tumors.
You don’t want people to overreact, but you also don’t want them to under-react,
Dr. Munger told The Independent.
Too Many Headaches Not a Good Sign
Headaches usually fall into three categories: headaches caused by blood pressure, headaches caused by issues with the sinus, and migraines. Frequency can be a helpful indicator to find how bad the problem really is.
Dr. Munger says that after having more than two headaches each week for ten days, you should go see a doctor. In addition, keeping a journal of the frequency of the headaches could help patients understand the triggers.
Some triggers include drinks, food, lack of sleep, period, and lack of water. The patients should also be able to tell his or her doctor the point of origin of the headache.
Headaches caused by blood pressure usually start in the back of the brain and extend from there. Sinus headaches involve pain around the eyes and face. Migraines are accompanies by splitting pain, blind spots, and sometimes nausea. But an underlying health issue could involve memory problems, numbness, and nausea, as well.
