A 24-year-old model from Ontario, Canada, wanted her eye whites to be colored in purple, so he decided to get an eyeball tattoo. However, this procedure went horribly wrong, as her eye got infected, became swollen, made her shed purple tears, and might leave her with a permanently damaged vision. Therefore, she decided to make her problem public, and warn people about the dangers of getting an eyeball tattoo.
The model wanted a purple eyeball tattoo
Catt Gallinger decided she wanted a sclera tattoo, namely having a hypodermic needle color her eyeball in ink of a specific color, and chose purple. However, it seems the artist didn’t use the ink properly, and didn’t perform the eyeball injections how he should. This had terrible consequences, as Gallinger might permanently lose her sight in that eye.
At first, her eye started shedding a purple discharge which looked like colored tears. Then, her entire eyeball got swollen and irritated, started bleeding and, eventually, affected her bleeding. Doctors tried to disperse the ink and reduce inflammation, and gave the woman some special drops.
The tattoo went horribly wrong, and almost left her blind in one eye
Most probably, the needle and ink the artist used weren’t sterile. Also, he might not have been completely capable of performing an eyeball tattoo. Gallinger remembers how he insisted on doing the tattoo, and advised everyone to be extremely careful with body modifications procedures. Therefore, she decided she would take legal action against the artist.
Galliger posted photos and videos on social media, in hope people would realize how dangerous it is to get an eyeball tattoo. Among the comments she received, there were many malicious ones, which called her stupid for agreeing to such a procedure in the first place. She admitted this was the only think she thought about when looking in the mirror, and was afraid she wouldn’t be able to continue her modelling career even if she regained her vision.
