Intel has officially announced today, the new generation of Atom processors. The most notable chips are the E3900 and A3900 which will be used in different industries. The company’s new products are part of the shift from a PC company to one that powers the different devices contributing to the internet of things.
The official announcement of the new Atom processors was made during the company’s vice-president, Jonathan Ballon, keynote presentation at the IoT Solutions World Congress in Barcelona. This new generation of processors will provide Intel with a head start in the various developing industries of the internet of things.
With this in mind, the company has developed two major processors, part of the Atom family, for different uses. First of all, Intel has developed the A3900 chip with cars in mind. As the auto industry gradually moves to autonomous vehicles, Intel wants to sell the chip that will power all the computing power of your car. Digital displays might very well replace your gauges and mirrors, and future cars might have a myriad of other electronic systems. Intel just wants to make sure this time they are prepared for the upcoming technological revolution in cars and avoid a stumble like they had with the mobile one.
Second of all, the other new member of Intel’s family of Atom processors, the E3900 will mainly be used in video devices like smart security cameras and video recorders. It can even be used in industrial devices like factory robots to assure fast and reliable communications among different devices working in unison.
The main difference between the two Atom processors is that the A3900 has a higher resistance to heat compared to E3900. However, in most other aspects both chips have similar features and capabilities. They are built using the 14-nanometer silicon technology. They have 1.7 times more computing power and 2.9 times greater 3D graphics performance than the former generation of chips.
Additionally, the chips have several new security features like the dedicated, Trusted Execution Engine 3.0, security coprocessor which helps prevent malware or unauthorized software on low-level devices. To ensure the fast connections requires to keep multiple devices in sync, the Atom processors include Intel’s Time Coordinated Computing Technology.
