Even though 47 years have passed since the first man walked on the moon, there are still a surprising number of people who strongly believe the Apollo 11 mission was a fake.
Marking the 47th anniversary of Neil Armstrong’s moonwalk, Mirror.co.uk published a report that shows at least 52 percent of British adults have a hard time believing the moon landing was not staged.
Five decades later, the question remains controversial for many: did Armstrong really walk on the moon or was the whole thing a sham pre-recorded somewhere on Earth?
Among the people who will be celebrating the years that have passed since the Apollo 11 space mission took the first men to the moon is former astronaut Buzz Aldrin, who stepped off the spacecraft and onto the moon right after Armstrong.
Numerous studies have provided enough evidence to prove that the late Armstrong – who died in 2012 – actually walked the moon. However, an overwhelming number of British people still believe it’s a conspiracy, according to a new survey on the matter.
What’s even more interesting is that people doubt so many other things in spite of scientific proof. The study was conducted by e2save, an online mobile retailer.
For example, the new report published in the Mirror.co.uk found that nearly 65 percent of adults in the UK doubt the past existence of dinosaurs. Meanwhile, one in ten British people is absolutely convinced the Loch Ness Monster – also known as Nessie – is real.
The survey of adults in the UK also found that many of the people who believe in the supernatural have trouble trusting in the authenticity of many of the biggest moments in history.
As far as the televised 1969 Apollo 11 moon landing goes, more than half of the interviewed adults from the UK believe it’s a hoax.
Among this group, people between the ages 25 and 34 were found to be the most skeptical. Roughly 73 percent of them doubt there ever was a moon landing while only 38 percent of people aged 55 and older thinks it was a sham. The latter category might have something to do with the fact that these people were already born at the time of the actual landing.
