The Tap, Dot, and Echo are impressive devices meant to make the lives of users effortless and comfortable. However, the technological wonders are pretty complex by nature, so they sometimes malfunction or appear to not work properly. The most encountered Amazon Echo problems are the ones related to its display, its hearing, and its wireless connection.
When idle, Alexa doesn’t flash any kind of light, however, when in use, both the Echo and the Dot speakers show off six different colors, each indicating something else. Unfortunately, most users have trouble understanding the meaning of the colors displayed by the light rings.
Royal Blue and Cyan – These two colors are used together. They flash and spin every time the wake word is uttered, while the command is being verbalized, and during Alexa’s response. They also appear when the device is booted. So don’t be scared when blue and cyan lights flash as the speaker powers up.
Alexa Red Light – It indicates that the mute switch located on the top side of the speaker is activated. So when your Echo or Dot devices flashed red lights, it’s trying to tell you that Alexa is not able to process or complete the command.
Orange – When this color flashes, the device is trying to connect to the internet. When the amber lights start pulsing, it means that the speaker is entering its setup mode, and wants to pair itself with a network via the Alexa app.
White – This non-color is reserved for displaying the volume level when it is either changed through voice command or manually.
Violet – The lilac nuance signals a problem surfaced during the Wi-Fi setup.
Difficulties with the Wireless Connection
Many users reported that their Tap, Dot, or Echo speakers don’t stay connected to the internal network. In this case, experts recommend individuals to power-cycle all of the devices from the modem and the router to the Alexa speaker. The next step is to activate audio streaming to see if the issue appears again.
If the error still exists, then the user may consider moving the speaker further away from other technological devices and closer to the modem. Also, check if the speaker is switched to a 5GHz channel because that would decrease the level of interference.
