According to the recent report that the search giant published on Monday, Google faces personnel diversity crisis, predominantly white and Asian employees work within its programming departments. Recent statistics have saddened employers at Google as they have been developing new methods and campaigns to diversify their staff.
Google is an open-minded company; unfortunately, a look at the company’s staff reports could easily contradict the previous statement. As a matter of fact, it appears that the search giant is deliberately looking for white and Asian developers to hire within its famous Menlo Park-based facilities.
Nothing falser than that, company’s representatives will rush to say as Google has been going through numerous efforts to attract diversified workforce. At the beginning of the year, the company started a complex campaign in schools and high schools to allure young girls into taking up programming careers.
Google published its latest workforce report on Monday and figures show that the situation hasn’t been much improved since the last statistics that the company has made. The web browser developer, on the other hand, claims results will only be visible in time. Moreover, spokespersons representing Google have reminded people that the recent efforts that have been made aimed the young segments of public, so it won’t be until five or more years that Google’s workforce will truly become diversified.
The search giant hopes African-Americans and Hispanics will also be attracted to the world of software developing. They have already teamed up with high-school and community representatives to teach programming to students using plain language. In addition, Google has signed a partnership with Disney allowing the developing enterprise to rely on the image of famous princesses in an attempt to convince young girls that the world of computer programming can be fun, too.
Google sensed that the gender and race diversity that it has set out to solve will take more than a year, so the company is not worried by the recent results. They have stated that deeper and diversified strategies were necessary in order to change social beliefs that have been around for decades if not for centuries.
Nevertheless, the hopes are still high as the Android producer thinks people, particularly successful people can help set an example for the younger generations. Thus, parents and high school teachers will work together to inspire children and to erase all possible prejudices that have been made in relation to their genders or races.
Adult generations have not been ignored, either. As a matter of fact, the small changes that are now visible within Google’s workforce have resulted in the recent hires that the firm has made. The search giant has hired one female for every fifth computer programming-related job opening and many more female positions will be created in the near future.
