On Saturday, the Ebola treatment center was expanded after authorities noticed that the number of patients was increasing continuously.
At the same time, two additional airlines made public announcements that flights would no longer be landing to the capitals of Liberia and Sierra Leone. Apart from flights, West African athletes have also received official interdictions from competing at the Youth Olympics in China.
Both Kenya Airways and Gambia Bird have decided to join the expanding list of airlines that won’t be taking the risk of landing in West Africa. These airlines have decided to avoid transmitting the deadly disease at all costs.
On Tuesday, Kenya Airways will stop after midnight. Titus Naikuni, the Chief Executive officer of Kenya Airways declared that the company had convened with the country’s health ministry and they decided together that this would constitute the best course of action.
Gambia Bird declared that it had also ceased all flights towards Sierra Leone, Liberia and Nigeria.
According to their statements, both airline companies desire to first and foremost ensure the safety and health of all their passengers and grew. Because of the international concern that the spread of the Ebola outbreak has cased, the airlines have decided that closing their gates would be the best way to go.
According to World Health Organization experts, the pandemic could last for another six months during which mortality rates may rise as a sign that the outbreak is maturing.
Currently, 1,145 people are reported dead because of the Ebola virus all over Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone (three people have also died in Nigeria, bringing the country in the public eye as well).
