Rory McIlroy’s Memorable Open Victory

July 22, 2014 Posted by Editor

Wells Fargo Championship - Round OneRory McIlroy wrote another page in the history of golf as the first European to win 3 of the 4 Majors since the Masters tournament. Rory McIlory’s memorable Open victory was apparently dedicated to someone special. “This one is for you mum,” he declared as he lifted the craved Claret Jug.

During this year’s British Open, the 25-year-old McIlory left a wonderful impression on everybody. Apart from his incredible talent, the young Irish is humble, linked to his origins, and focused on what he has to accomplish. “I’ve really found my passion again for golf,” McIlroy said. “Not that it ever dwindled, but it’s what I think about when I get up in the morning, it’s what I think about when I go to bed. I just want to be the best golfer I can be.”

Throughout the whole competition, his motto words were “process” and “spot,” he latter referring to his targets on the green field.

For instance, on Sunday, during the Open competition, an agitator tried to distract McIlroy on the 16th hole by coughing during his tee shot. Instead of making a big fuss, which he was entitled to, he turned around and pointed towards the heckler, who was immediately escorted out of the course. McIlroy reportedly had endured previous distractions from this same man that day. He silently put up with his abuse for 15 holes.

The Royal Liverpool celebration on Sunday was very moving, as Rosie McIlroy, Rory McIlroy’s mother, stepped onto the green to embrace her son. Therefore her tears of joy were felt by millions of viewers around the world. Rosie’s story is equally impressive, as she had worked night shifts in a factory in order to help fund her son’s golf lessons. But all that sacrifice definitely paid off in that memorable moment in Liverpool on Sunday.

“Today wasn’t easy, there were a few guys making runs at me. I needed to just stay in the moment. The lead never got to less than two, so I always felt comfortable. I had three shots to play with going down the the last two holes.”

With this victory at Hoylake, McIlroy joined both Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods as the sole players to have won 3 majors by the age of 25.

After winning the Claret Jug on Sunday, McIlroy was seen with his mother and fellow professional Justin Rose, heading to The Empire Club in Liverpool. Rumor has it that he started dating Irish model Nadia Forde. He apparently started dating Nadia just eight weeks after breaking off his engagement with tennis star Caroline Wozniacki.
