A 56-year old contract worker died at an Iron County mine. Mark Rowley died after speciously getting stuck in a conveyer belt.
The death of the man from Cedar City occurred Saturday night at the Comstock/Mountain Lion Mine — west of Cedar City at about 5:50 p.m , said Iron County sheriff’s Sgt. Charles Triplett.
The Emergency responders arrived at the accident spot 2700 S. Comstock Road to find Rowley trapped in the machinery. Despite of several efforts of saving Rowley’s life, he died at the scene, according to the Iron County Sheriff’s Office.
Rowley’s death is believed to be an accident. He was working alone at the time.
The Mine Safety and Health Administration spokeswoman Amy Louviere said they are still investigating how Rowley got caught in the conveyor belt.
She marked the investigation as “very preliminary.”
CML Metals actively mines iron ore from the Comstock/Mountain Lion Mine, which is west of Cedar City.
Company administrators were not available for any further comment on Monday morning.
