A team of astronomers led by the University of Hawaii have recently found a solitary dwarf galaxy located 7 million light-years away from Earth. The new found galaxy was discovered by the Hubble Space Telescope in the Milky Way’s near vicinity. Researchers located the new galaxy, labeled KKs3, within a cluster of 54 galaxies they were trying to map. KKs3 is a solitary dwarf spheroidal galaxy, a … [Read more...]
Displaced Black Hole or Massive Supernova: Astronomers Search for Answers
Astronomers discovered a black hole positioned far away from its host galaxy. Initially, they thought they are looking at a supernova, but a closer examination seems to indicate that a black hole has gone rogue. When galaxies collide, they form a larger galaxy. Black holes, usually located at the core of each galaxy, will merge as well. But scientists have been searching for proof that some … [Read more...]
Galaxies Also Love Dancing
Astrophysicists have come to a new understanding of galactic motion and they’re apparently awestruck by the new and challenging discoveries. Galaxies have their own sense of rhythm, researchers have concluded, as they uncovered how they move around other galaxies. It seems that galaxies “dance” around their giant counterparts in a disc-like pattern. This discovery isn’t supportive of the … [Read more...]
