The entire scientific world was beside itself when CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, announced the discovery of a new particle last year. The Higgs boson received a lot of praise, and it was postulated that it is because of it that other fundamental particles have mass. However, researchers now claim that the particle discovered then may have not been the Higgs boson. … [Read more...]
Higgs Boson, God Particle Picture Becomes Clearer As LHC Gears Up For Restart
The team of scientists working at CERN's Large Hadron Collider (LHC) facility has reported to the press that the process of restarting the massive experimental mechanism has begun though it won't finish until sometime next year. The world's most complicated system of machines will have to be restarted in pieces to ensure that each is operating properly before the next can be brought online. The … [Read more...]
New type of subatomic particle ‘Exotic Hadron’ exists, say CERN researchers
The scientists have confirmed the presence a new type of hadron, that doesn’t go with the traditional model of particle physics i.e. the exotic hadrons. Exotic hadrons are subatomic particles made up of quarks and antiquarks which interact via the "strong force" that binds protons together inside the nuclei of atoms. Interestingly, they have the same mass as their quark counterparts but they … [Read more...]
