Facebook users have long been asking for a dislike button or any other type of function that would show their displeasure, as the current reactions are better but still do not fulfill that demand. Now, Facebook is testing out both the elusive dislike button and other reactions for messages.
When you chat with a friend and you want to express your feelings about a certain message, you can now hover it, click the emoji icon and select one of the seven available reactions such as love, laugh, surprise and of course like and dislike.
When you use a reaction, everyone in that specific thread will be able to see it. The overall number and type of reactions used in a thread will be counted in a full list available one tap away in the main chat window.
The new reactions, among which is the highly-anticipated dislike button were first reported by a few number of users. The new messages feature has been confirmed by Facebook, which stated they are constantly trying out ways to make Facebook Messenger more engaging and fun. Depending on the success of the testing period, the feature could very well a public roll out.
The new Messenger reactions are slightly different in style than those found in your News Feed. It is quite interesting to see Facebook actually implementing a dislike button, despite stating that it will not introduce one for News Feed as it may increase the negativity. They hoped that the new reactions will be enough to meet the demands of most users.
According to Facebook, the new message reactions which include a thumbs-down and a thumbs-up emoji represents no and yes, rather than the infamous dislike button. Those two thumb emoji are meant to be used for a quick voting process and other logistical planning when you converse with a greater number of your contacts.
The new reactions feature for messages is sure to facilitate communication, especially since you can easily state your reaction to a specific message in a chat where a user asked multiple questions in a row.
What do you think about the new reactions in Facebook Messenger and the supposed dislike button?
