Digital assistants have risen to prominence in the last few years thanks to their growing popularity with users ever since Apple first introduced Siri. Since then, companies like Amazon, Google and Microsoft have developed their digital assistant with various functions, from controlling a smart home to answering our every feasible request.
However, other companies like Nokia are joining the fray, but unlike the current systems, Nokia’s MIKA which stands for Multi-purpose Intuitive Knowledge Assistant, is designed for serious business, more precisely it allows engineers and telecom operators to access the information they require through voice commands. MIKA is meant to facilitate their work by offering solutions to whatever problems the engineers and operators may face.
During the announcement of the digital assistant, Nokia stated that MIKA will be able to provide voice-enabled automated assistance in order to reduce time spent researching issues and solutions, minimizing resource cost, while enabling operators to concentrate on various key business tasks without ever being distracted by the various complex aspects of a multi-technology network environment.
Thanks to Nokia’s experience with network infrastructure, MIKA will be able to recommend to users a solution to their problems by actually remembering how a similar issue was solved in the past. Although Nokia hopes that MIKA will be able to solve problems easily, the company also took steps to ensure that common network issues will be prevented thanks to the Predictive Repair service. This system is able to predict various network failures up to two weeks ahead with a surprising accuracy of 95 percent.
The announcement of the new digital assistant, MIKA, comes at a time where the company is preparing to unveil a new smartphone which will mark its return to the market. Most industry experts believe that the big reveal will take place at the Mobile World Congress.
There have been rumors that Nokia is also developing a more consumer-friendly digital assistant for their new devices, as the company previously registered a trademark for a bot named Viki. No matter if the rumors are true or not, we will likely see MIKA go live before any other release. There’s a chance that in the near future your network problems may very well be solved by MIKA.
