Walmart will once again provide free health checkups to its customers this Sunday. The service is available thanks to Wellness Day. Walmart will offer health tests in all of its stores in the US.
Walmart first started its Wellness Day last year and it proved to be a resounding success. So much so that it was called “America’s Biggest Health Fair” and it was the biggest health-screening event in the country, according to Walmart at least.
The event will be available in all of its 4,600 stores across the country between noon and 4 p.m. No appointments are necessary; however, the health checkups will be offered on a first-come-first-served basis.
The health checkups will include blood pressure and glucose tests, vision screening, various product samples and information on health care insurance. Walmart will also offer immunizations at its over 10,000 pharmacies across the nation.
According to Walmart’s press release, the available health checkups will be for some people the first time they undergo such a test. They also expect a very high number of people to participate in their health fair.
During last year’s edition, the company tested more than 280,000 people, immunized over 52,000. It even detected illnesses such as high blood pressure in over 7,000 people. There was even a case where a woman’s blood pressure was high enough to go directly to the emergency room after the result of the test. Blood-glucose testing revealed that over 3,000 people had high-enough levels to require them to visit their doctor.
Additionally, Walmart gave away over 2 million samples of various healthy food and health products. A feat bound to be repeated if not exceeded this year thanks to the commitment of various companies like Pfizer, Kleenex, Dannon, Vega, Johnson & Johnson, and more.
Walmart is in a great position to make this type of event a success as over 90 percent of Americans reside within 10 miles of a Walmart Store. According to George Riedl, vice president at Walmart, the health checkups provide a basic but vital understanding of people’s overall health and how to improve it. The fact that it is free is a great incentive for anyone to get tested.
