In honor of the “American Heart Association’s National Walking Day”, thousands of people strolled on the streets yesterday demonstrating that walking is healthy. The Heart Association started this event because they are trying to raise awareness of the dangers of sedentariness.
Almost 70 percent of all Americans struggle with health problems caused by a severe lack of physical activity. The Heart Associations advises all adults to engage in 150 minutes of sports or other such physical activities every week. For adolescents and children, the weekly fitness quota is 60 minutes.
There are plenty of ways in which people could spend their weekly 150 minutes, but the best and easiest way is walking. Walking is healthy, and it can be done whenever you feel like cutting a few minutes from your weekly quota.
If you walk for at least half an hour every day you can
- Improve the levels of your blood pressure, blood cholesterol, and blood sugar.
- Lower the risks of becoming obese by keeping your weight in check.
- Considerably reduce the risk of developing type two diabetes and heart disease. Also, it helps you avoid strokes.
- Increase your stamina and energy.
- Take care of your mental health.
- Reduce the risk of developing colon cancer, breast cancer, and osteoporosis.
Furthermore, researchers say that with every hour of lively walking, people increase their life expectancy with two hours.
If walking by yourself seems like a dull thing to do, or you feel like you don’t have the time to do it, there are a few tricks that could help you.
Take the Bus
Apart from the fact that by taking the bus you contribute to the global effort of fighting climate change, taking the bus help your body become healthier. When you return from work, get out of the bus two stops before your house. And walk the rest of the way home. Walking is healthy, and every step counts.
Take the Stairs
Even if you have a flight or two to climb, taking the stairs will always be the best decision. While you climb the stairs, you work your legs, and you engage in a rapid session of physical activity that might help you shake off fatigue and get back to work with a clear head.
Park Further
If you must take your car out for shopping, dinner, or work, then park further than you usually do. Walking is healthy and every step you take, every extra move you make, you do it for the good of your physical and mental health.
