Want to buy a smartphone for $10? Wallmart has one! Many people consider a smartphone an essential device these days, but not everyone is willing to pay $600 for a cell phone. While tome technology enthusiasts consider it an investment worth making, many people just aren’t going to spend a lot of money on a smartphone, either because they don’t need the latest features, they don’t use it enough to justify spending a large amount on it or they can’t always afford to pay that much.
Wallmart has come up with a solution for people that need the basic functions of a smartphone but don’t have a big budget set apart for buying one. The company is now offering a $10 smartphone in their stores. There have been more and more affordable smartphones popping up on the market but many people might consider an affordable price in the range of $50 or $100. Wallmart however has hit an all-time low with the price of this new smartphone: it only costs about 10$.
The model is actually a Tracfone produced by LG and is part of a series that was launched two years ago. This means that the phone uses an older version of Android but that doesn’t seem to prevent it from running most of the useful apps that people need.
Wallmart has the smartphone listed on their online store for the price of $9.82 and shipping is free for an order on at least $50 which means that the phone has now become one of the cheapest, if not the cheapest Android phone sold in a retail store.
The phone has a 4GB microSD card and has access to the Google Play Store like other Android devices, so users can download essential apps from there. It also has a 3.8-inch touchscreen display, a 1.2GHz dual-core and a 3 MP camera. It only runs the Android 4.4 (KitKat) and has features such as WiFi, 3G, Bluetooth and MP3 player.
Of course the phone isn’t groundbreaking performance wise, but it has been considered better equipped than the original iPhone was when it first hit the market. All things considered, it’s not very impressive in terms of capability but it will get the job done. And considering the price tag it has, people that will purchase it might be more interested in basic functions and apps rather than top performance and high-tech features.
And despite having a few limitations because of the older version of Android it runs and the technical capabilities it has, it’s still a great deal considering it only costs $10.
