Recharging the batteries of handheld devices was considered an endeavor that people didn’t even dare to think about. Thanks to the recent technological discoveries that have been made, engineers could soon develop a technology to help recharge batteries through Wi-Fi connection.
There are still voices saying that this project is basically impossible. Scientists, on the other hand, argue that the same system that is being used to transmit radio signals might be utilized in the future to replace cable recharging.
Developers at the University of Washington have explained the mechanism behind the “Power over Wi-Fi Connection”. Based on their official reports, this technology has the ability to turn the Wi-Fi device into a two-operation gadget. Once the software has been added to the router, it will automatically begin sending both power and Internet data on handheld devices.
The “Power over Wi-Fi Technology” presupposes the existence of a harvester, scientists have explained. The latter will transform radio signals into direct current power waves that are automatically sent on portable devices when asked to do so. Wires could thus, be soon replaced, even though similar projects have been carried out in the past, as well.
There are currently many wireless tools to help users charge their devices, but they, nevertheless, rely on specific docking stations to send power to the gadget. Tech savvies, on the other hand, think the new technology could completely eliminate both wires and additional systems from the recharging process.
While there are many advantages one could think of now that the “Power over Wi-Fi Connection has been made public, there are many other questions that have remained unanswered. Some users might be disappointed to know that the power that may be transmitted over the wireless router is limited to a certain mass.
Researchers are now working on possible techniques they could use to prevent this glitch from happening again in the future. They believe the system can be tricked into emitting more power if programed to charge batteries during the low rates of user traffic.
Tests results have shown that the wireless router functions better as a two-in-one product when the traffic levels are low. This way, the device is prevented from burning out during high system usage, scientists have concluded.
