The new flibanserin-based drug claiming to increase women’s sexual drive has been well-graded by the Food and Drug Administration, recent reports confirm. The ‘Female Viagra’ gets greenlighted by FDA, even though previous analyses suggested that the medicine will not get approved.
Companies may soon be producing ‘female Viagra’ as the Food and Drug Administration has agreed to approve the medicine. The drug was first discovered in 2010 while being tested as an anti-depressant.
Flibanserin did not receive very good reviews during the first tests as medical experts have labeled the positive effects of the drug as inconclusive compared to the side effects that the medicine could have. According to medical experts, female patients who have tested the drug, have experienced dizziness, nausea and a general state of depression.
The producing company, Boehringer Ingelheim from Germany has tested the drug in 2010 and 2013 and later on sold its license to Sprout Pharmaceuticals. Tests have shown that the women, who have taken the drug have had 4.4 percent more sexual desires than they used to on a regular basis.
Women, who have received a sugar pill, instead of the pink medicine, have had 3.7 more satisfying intercourses than they used to have prior to the experiment. These findings have determined scientists to conclude that the positive effects of the pill are too small in comparison with the placebo results.
In addition, 2.7 percent satisfying physical contacts have been experienced by these same women before the experiment. Thus, the FDA and other medical commissions have declared themselves reluctant in approving the new drug.
The female Viagra got greenlighted by the FDA on Thursday afternoon after being subject to a new review. The administration has agreed that the pink pill could be effectively used as a treatment against women’s low libido.
In spite of the favorable review that the pill has received, there are still many psychology experts who claim the drug won’t manage to treat women’s sexual affections. Much of their criticism is grounded on the fact that women’s sexual problems are much more complex than the ones of the men.
Unlike male Viagra, which is capable of treating men’s physical problems, female ‘Viagra’ works as an anti-depressant and allows women to have satisfying intercourses by relaxing them. According to Judy Kuriansky, a clinical psychologist and certified sex therapist, women’s hypoactive sexual disorders can’t be treated by simply taking a pill.
Kuriansky argues that women have to feel good about themselves in order to have an increased libido. There are many psychological aspects that won’t be treated by the pill and that will most likely require the support of medical experts, the sex therapist concluded.
