On Friday, a man from Hawaii has been killed after being impaled by a swordfish. Officials who have commented on this matter have said in a statement that the man had jumped into water in order to catch some fish. The tragic event took place in the Honokohau Harbor in Kailua-Kona. The people who have witnessed the death of the Hawaii man killed by swordfish have added that the man was in his 40s. According to the information related to this event which they have released, the man jumped from the pier. The witnesses have said that it looked like he was trying to catch a billfish. John Whitman, an official affiliated to the Hawaii County’s fire department and who is in the position of head of the West Hawaii Acting Battalion has agreed with the statement of the witnesses on this matter.
According to a statement which has been released by the state Department of Land and Natural Resources, the fish that caused the death of the Hawaii man was a swordfish. Its bill measured around 3 feet in length. And it was nearly 40 pounds in weigh.
John Whitman has added that the events unfolded in a matter of moments. The next thing the witnesses knew after the man jumped into the water was seeing him floating lifelessly. Unfortunately, the trails of the firefighters to resuscitate the Hawaii man failed. The man had a wound in the right upper part of his torso. Whitman has added that the authorities took the man to the Kona Hospital. However, the doctors were unable to bring him back to life. He was declared dead, since the doctors had no chance.
The Hawaii police has come to the hospital in order to identify the person killed by the swordfish. According to them, the victim`s name was Randy Llanes, a resident of Kailua-Kona.

Chief John Whitman has said in a statement on the matter.
One of the people who have witnessed the tragic scene has told the authorities that, prior to his jump in the water, Randy Llanes had shot the swordfish using a spear gun.
At the moment, the incident is being investigated by the authorities at the Hawaii County police.
This is not the first such event occurring in the area. John Whitman has stated that swordfish are known for their fatally wounding of the beings which they see as aggressors.
