The case of the Virginia University student who has gone missing over the weekend has already received significant media coverage, and while police still hasn’t suggested that there is any evidence of foul play in the straight-A student’s disappearance, they are now looking for a man seen following Hannah in one of the surveillance videos.
While some surveillance footage have Hannah walking and running alone, several other videos show her in the company of a man. Around 1 AM, the second year student is shown walking into the downtown mall. She was being followed by a man. When interrogating the man in the videos, police found out that he had been concerned that intoxicated Hannah (who had consumed alcohol during the off-campus party) could need help. Additionally, he told investigators that he had seen another man place his arm around the student right before she disappeared. In light of this new information, police officers will be more aggressive in their investigation, as they are now searching for that second man.
According to Cpt. Gary Pleasants, the footage shows the 18-year old in the company of a colleague she had classes with on her way to the party. Hannah then left around 12:15 while her colleague remained. Around 1:10 AM, Hannah sent the text “Lost” from her cellphone. Twenty minutes after that, her cellphone went silent.
On Sunday police began searching for Hannah in the woods surrounding her home. So far, authorities haven’t gotten serious leads.
Over the last five years, three similar disappearances have taken place within the same area. While the police hasn’t suggested that the four cases are related, they can’t exclude the possibility either.
Graham’s parents fear the worst despite the outpouring of support from authorities and members of community. They insist that such behavior is totally out of Hanna’s character. The FBI is also aiding police officers in the investigation.
