A nonprofit watchdog group has analyzed some of the nation’s worst food choices and has comprised a list of the foods that are slowly killing our nation. In this list you are bound to find some of your favorite foods: fried seafood, peanut butter cups, cheesecake, fudge or French toast with bacon and butter syrup. However bad these foods are, there are nine other ones who are truly horrifying and are on the menus of the nation’s most beloved fast-food chains.
The Center for Science in the Public Interest yearly releases a list of the foods that are highest in saturated fats, sodium, sugar and calories. The restaurants selling these foods are selected for the Xtreme Eating Awards as their meals average at least 2,000 calories (with some of them actually exceeding the 3,000 calorie limit). The CSPI says that consumers could take half the meal home and still surely overeat.
On this list, three of the meals are from the Cheesecake Factory. One of these three ticking time bombs is their Bruleed French Toast, which contains a massive 2,700 calories hidden within their custard-soaked bread, sugar, maple-butter syrup and bacon. Additionally, the meal also has five days’ worth of saturated fat (93 grams) that would take around seven hours of swimming laps to burn off.
But even the Cheesecake Factory’s attempt at a massive meal isn’t a match for the Red Robin Gourmet Burgers’ A.1. Peppercorn Burger with bacon. This monster of a burger packs in 3,540 calories and places itself on a comfortable first place on the list. It also contains 69 grams of saturated fat and an astonishing 6,280 milligrams of sodium. This meal would take you 12 hours walking to burn off.
Joey’s Crab Shack is another restaurant that could feed a family of four with a single meal: their Big “Hool” Up platter contains seafood, crab balls, cream cheese, panko breadcrumbs, beer-battered fish, chips, jalapenos, shrimp and hush puppies and would leave you with 3,280 calories to ingest.
How about 2,160 calories-worth of Pizza? BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse could easily whip that up for you if you order their small sized Deep Dish Chicken Bacon Ranch Pizza.
According to the CSPI, this list is not a laughing matter as it portrays the caloric extremism that is ruling our land and that is surely killing our citizens. Such high calorie, high fat and high sodium foods cause high blood pressure, atherosclerosis, diabetes and all the cardiovascular diseases that are currently America’s top 1 killer.
