The gun that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev used to kill a police officer after the Boston marathon shootings was finally linked to the terrorist’s friend. The question of where did the young man get the gun has been on everyone’s mind ever since the tragedy.
The question might have finally been answered, because yesterday a man was arrested it his arrest could provide important information about the Dzhokhar Tsarnaev case. The man’s name is Stephen Silva and he was friends with Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.
He made his first appearance in federal court on charges that were in relation to possession of a handgun and heroin trafficking. The handgun he possessed had an obliterated serial number and it appears to be the gun used in the killing spree that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and his brother went on after the Boston marathon shootings.
Johathan Shapiro, Silva’s attorney had this to say about the case:
According to news reports, law-enforcement officials say it is the same weapon that was used … in the MIT officer Sean Collier shooting. However, this has not been charged in the indictment.
The attorney also released a statement in which he said that he was in the process of reviewing evidence in the case and that he declined to comment further.
The pistol is indeed the same 9 mm Ruger gun that killed MIT police officer Sean Collier during the manhunt for the bombing suspect. The confirmation was given by two people who chose to remain anonymous due to the fact that they had not been authorized to discuss the investigation.
The grand jury indictment of Silva does not mention the police officer’s death or any connection that he may have with Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, but it does mention that Silva knowingly was in the possestion of a gun:
which had the importer’s and manufacturer’s serial number removed, obliterated, and altered and had previously been shipped and transported in interstate and foreign commerce.
The indictment also mentions the fact that Stephen Silva conspired to sell heroin in the Boston area this summer.
Silva is an old friend of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, they went to same college, the Cambridge Rindge and Latin School and both graduated in 2011. A bail hearing is scheduled for 6 August of this year.
